So yea, PS1/2 JRPGs are really f'ing long.
I would include SMT: Nocturne (14:20:xx with a PS2 hdd loader which means it's ike 16+ hours without that) but that run gets the true ending, and the run is probably like 5 hours shorter if you do one of the alignment endings, which are still valid and not just consolation prizes for the true ending like the alternate endings in the Persona games. Most notable among these was the addition of bartering, which allowed players to rapidly gain the vital resource of ender pearls, which, when combined with blaze powder, create eyes of ender, which allow players to find and enter the End Portal to fight the Ender Dragon. Before 1.16, the only way to get these ender pearls was to kill a large. If we're talking just straight any%, some of the longer records I know of are in Xenogears (15:41:xx), Persona 4 (15:23:xx), Persona 3 (14:29:xx) and Dragon Quest 7 (13:47:xx). 1.16 introduced several speedrun-breaking mechanics. Shouldn't be too shocked since his specialty of speed runs is JRPGs. Where did you get those records?Įdit: Wait a second! I did a search of this and found out that Neviutz actually has made an attempt at this. Granted if there was a team put together to make it happen, a run wouldn't be that hard to complete.īTW Romscout. Honestly make you want to see a JRPG happen, huh? Personally, I would love to see a Persona run get added to the site, although it will be hard to say who would honestly put in the time to make it happen. Baten Kaitos is a card game with hundreds of collectibles and certain items in the game need to be upgraded in real time. This 100 speedrun comes in at 341h 20m 03s. Of course it's hard to say which of these is actually the longest since it's hard to say how optimized these records are when they start reaching ridiculous times like this. The world’s longest speedrun is Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. But actually, I did a huge FAQ for this, since there are a ton of things to explain about how, why etc. This is an 8 hours and 22 minutes improvement over the previous one, due to a better menuing and way less resets. If we're talking just straight any%, some of the longer records I know of are in Xenogears (15:41:xx), Persona 4 (15:23:xx), Persona 3 (14:29:xx) and Dragon Quest 7 (13:47:xx). If we start throwing 100% into the mix, I know PJ and Aftermath used to joke about racing Breath of Fire 3 100% because one of the items needed for the definition required having a game file that was over 50 hours or something like that.
